Dental surgery is a subclass of dentistry which deals with teeth, mouth, and gums. Many people consider dentists and oral surgeons to be the same, but they are different. The dentist performs the necessary procedures related to the teeth and mouth, whereas an oral surgeon performs the complicated procedures. Here is a list of methods an oral surgeon does.

Endodontic: the surgeon performs this surgery when there is a problem involving the pulp and root of the tooth. Endodontics procedure is of different types. A root canal is one of them. The oral surgeon treats the diseased or decayed tooth here by removing the pulp or root of the tooth. A pulpotomy is also an endodontic procedure. In pulpotomy, the oral surgeon drains the pulp infection to prevent the tooth from decaying. An apicoectomy involves the full root canal surgery.

Prosthodontics: these procedures are done by the surgeon to replace the tooth with a prosthetic tooth. Crowning is one of its types. The caps of the tooth are fixed in these surgeries. In veneers, there is an artificial crown put, but only the forward surface of the tooth is covered. The oral surgeons also do dentures which is an attachment of a false tooth.

Periodontics: when the problem is with the gum, the surgery that oral surgeon performs are called periodontics. Like the procedures mentioned above, there are many other procedures that the oral surgeon performs to relieve the pain of the patient and provide proper treatment to their patients. One can easily get hold of a dentist who sees the patients. If the case is a complex one, the dentist then refers the patients to the oral surgeon where the surgeries van be performed to solve the issue.
